About Tournament of Roses Parade
The Super Bowl, Thanksgiving, and lying on your couch with an ice pack over your aching, hung-over head watching the Rose Parade on New Year’s Day. That’s as close as a trifecta of universal mainstream American holidays as you’ll find. Officially the Tournament of Roses Parade, the procession of flower-studded floats and marching bands through the streets of sunny Pasadena, California is as synonymous with the American New Year’s celebration as the ball dropping in Manhattan at midnight. Originally featuring flower-bearing horse carriages in the late 19th century, today’s floats are quite elaborate—Hollywood studios often replicating entire movie sets in displays of floral craftsmanship. And if that New Years hangover is too heavy to make it down to Pasadena, you can always watch from your couch.
