About Hogmanay Festival

Hogmanay is the New Year’s Celebration in Scotland, but so uniquely Scottish and merged with ancient customs and traditions, that it is considered a festival in its own right. Along with the incredibly spirited and jovial atmosphere that only the Scottish can produce, there are various highly entertaining activities and processions that make for a truly unforgettable experience. Alongside the common activities of dancing and drinking and singing “Auld Lang Syne” (which can be translated as Days Gone By) through the wee hours of the night, many other activities are especially unique to particular cities or regions. The most notable of these would have to be the Stonehaven Fireballs Ceremony, where locals walk down the streets swinging fireballs over their heads.

The Hogmanay Festival is celebrated all over Scotland and begins on the evening of the 31st of December and proceeds through to the 1st or 2nd of January.
